Add-to-cart confirmations
Ask customers to tick a checkbox or answer a short question before their design goes into the cart, and see verified answers on every order.
Add-to-cart confirmations are checkboxes and short questions customers must answer before a design is added to the cart — for example I checked spelling and colours. You set them up once under Settings → Add-to-cart confirmations, and the answers arrive with the order. The feature is available on all plans, including Free.
Use them to cut down on the most common production problems: typos nobody checked, missing details like a date or a size, or a customer who did not realise a photo would print in black and white.
How it works
- You create confirmation fields for your store, and optionally a different list for single products.
- Before a customer can add their design to the cart, the designer shows a Before you add to cart section with your fields.
- Required fields block the add to cart until they are answered.
- The answers are stored with the order and checked when the order arrives, so you can trust that what you see is what the customer agreed to.
Field types
| Field type | Use it for | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Acknowledgement checkbox | A statement the customer must tick. | I checked spelling and colours. |
| Short text | A single-line answer such as a name, a date or a reference. | Date of the event |
| Long text | A multi-line note or instruction. | Anything we should know about your photo? |
| Selection | One choice from a list you define. | Gift wrap: none / paper / box |
| Yes / No | A simple yes-or-no question. | Is this a surprise gift? |
Short text answers allow 120 characters by default and up to 255. Long text answers allow 500 by default and up to 1,000. A selection needs at least two options and can have up to 20.
Set up your store’s fields
- Go to Settings → Add-to-cart confirmations.
- Press Add field.
- Choose a Field type and enter the Label — the text the customer sees. Add Help text if the question needs a short explanation.
- Set the options:
- Required — customers cannot add to cart until they answer it.
- Show on Shopify line — the answer also appears as a visible Label: answer line on the cart item, at checkout and on the Shopify order.
- Active — inactive fields are kept but not shown to customers.
- Save the field. Use Move up and Move down to change the order customers see.
Limits
- Up to 20 fields per list (the store list, or one product’s own list).
- Up to 5 fields per list can use Show on Shopify line.
- Only Short text up to 120 characters, Selection and Yes / No fields can be shown on the Shopify line. All answers are stored with the order either way.
Languages
Use Text language in the field editor to add the label, help text and options in other languages. Customers see the text in their storefront language. When a translation is missing, English is used.
Use a different list on one product
Each product can follow the store list, use its own, or switch confirmations off. Open the product in Customezo and find Add-to-cart confirmations:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Store default | Uses the store-wide list from Settings. |
| Custom list | Uses its own list, shown under Product confirmation fields. The store list is ignored for this product. |
| Off | No confirmation fields are shown for this product. |
See Product setup for the other per-product options.
Answers on the order
Open the order and look at each design item. Under Customer confirmations you see every answer, with a status:
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Verified | The answers match what the customer gave when they added the item to the cart. | Nothing — go ahead. |
| Unverified — answers changed after add to cart | The answers on the order do not match the ones saved with the design. | Check with the customer before production. |
| Unverified — cart line was modified | The cart line lost its verification data, for example because another app or the theme changed the cart item. | Check the answers with the customer. |
| Answers unavailable — design draft expired | The saved answers could no longer be found. | Confirm the requirements with the customer before production. |
The answers are also included in the Order Summary PDF and the production manifest, so whoever prints the item sees them too. See Orders & print files.
Keep the list short
Every field is one more step before checkout. Two or three well-chosen fields protect your production without hurting sales. Use Required only where a missing answer would stop you from producing the item.
Deleting fields
Deleting a field removes it for new orders. Answers already stored on orders are kept. If you only want to pause a field, switch off Active instead.
