What is Customezo?
An overview of the app — what it does, how a personalized order flows from your storefront to your production files, and the vocabulary used throughout this help center.
Customezo is a product personalization app for Shopify. It adds a designer to your product pages so shoppers can put their own text, images and artwork on your products, see exactly how it will look, and order it. You get back a print-ready file for every item you need to produce.
It works for print-on-demand apparel, DTF and transfer printing, laser engraving, signage, packaging, gifts, promotional products — anything where the customer decides what goes on the product.
How it works
- You make a product customizable. You connect a Shopify product to Customezo (or create one from a template), then define its sides and print areas — the exact places a design can go, at their real physical size.
- Your customers design. A Design Now button appears on the product page. It opens the designer, where shoppers add text, upload photos, pick colors and preview the result on your product mockup.
- They add it to the cart. Any customization fees and bulk discounts you configured are applied. From the cart, they can still reopen and edit their design.
- The order arrives in Customezo. Every design order shows up under Orders with a preview of each item.
- You download production files. Customezo renders high-resolution print files at the DPI, color mode and format your print method requires, plus a preview and an order summary PDF.
Where you work
Customezo has three surfaces:
| Surface | Who uses it | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify admin (embedded app) | You and your team | Products, print areas, templates, pricing, orders, settings. Opens inside Shopify under Apps. |
| Storefront designer | Your customers | The design experience on your product page, cart and design links. |
| Portal | You and your team | A standalone dashboard outside Shopify, with the same product and order tools plus multi-store management. See Portal. |
The vocabulary
These terms come up on every screen. The Glossary has the full list.
- Custom product — a product in Customezo that has a designer configuration. It is usually linked to a Shopify product.
- Side — a printable face of the product: Front, Back, Left sleeve, Lid. Each side has its own background and print area. Sides can be required or optional.
- Print area — the rectangle (or ellipse, triangle or diamond) inside a side where a design may be placed, defined at its real physical width and height. Nothing outside it prints.
- Mockup / background — the product photo shown behind the print area in the designer. Either a real photo per color variant, or one transparent PNG mask that is filled with each variant’s color.
- Print method — the production process (DTF, laser engraving, embroidery…). It sets designer limits — minimum DPI, allowed formats, layer counts — and how print files are exported.
- Design template — a ready-made design your team creates once and attaches to a product, so the designer opens pre-filled instead of blank.
- Design draft — a customer’s saved, unordered design.
- Print file — the high-resolution output generated after an order, at the size and DPI your print method needs.
What Customezo does not do
- It is not a print provider. Customezo produces the files; you or your supplier produce the goods.
- It does not replace your Shopify checkout. Orders, payments and fulfillment stay in Shopify.
- It does not change your theme’s code. The storefront pieces are installed as Shopify theme app blocks, which you can turn on and off from the theme editor. See Storefront setup.
