Pricing & fees

Charge customization fees on top of your product price — per extra side, per add-on, per effect — with pricing profiles assigned to the products you choose.

Customezo charges customization fees on top of your Shopify product price — for extra sides, add-ons and effects. You define the fees in a pricing profile, assign it to products, and the fee is added to the cart automatically. Your product price itself stays in Shopify.

Find them under Pricing & Discounts → Pricing Profiles.

Pricing profiles

A profile is a named set of fees — for example Premium Apparel Pricing — that you assign to any number of products. A product uses one profile.

  • Active — assigned products charge this profile’s fees.
  • Inactive — fees are not applied while the profile is inactive. Useful for switching a promotion off without deleting the setup.

Create one from scratch or start from a template:

TemplateWhat it gives you
BlankEmpty — add only the fees you need.
Extra sidesFirst side included, a flat fee for each additional side.
Print shopExtra-side fee plus a per-image fee and an optional rush add-on.

Side fees

Side fees are charged per item, based on how many sides the customer designed. Two modes:

First sides included

Include a number of sides at no extra cost, then charge a flat fee per extra side.

  • Free sides — how many are included.
  • Price per extra side — charged for each side beyond that.

Example

Free sides: 1. Price per extra side: 3.00. A customer who designs the front only pays nothing extra; front and back costs 3.00; all four sides costs 9.00.

By side count

Set the exact total fee for each number of sides used.

SidesTotal fee
10.00
24.00
36.00
47.00

If a customer uses more sides than you defined, the highest tier applies. Set a tier to 0 to make it free. Use this mode when your pricing is not linear — the second side costs real setup time, the fourth barely adds any.

Canvas products

Canvas products use a single sheet, so side fees never apply to them. If you assign a profile with side fees to canvas products, Customezo warns you and tells you how many are affected. Use add-on fees there instead.

Add-on and effect fees

  • Add-on fees are optional extras the shopper chooses in the designer — a rush option, gift packaging, a per-image charge.
  • Effect fees are charged when a specific effect is applied, such as laser engraving or embossing. Every effect fee needs an effect type.

Each fee needs a label (what the customer sees) and a unique key (generated from the label). The profile summary shows badges for what is configured: 2 free sides, then 3.00, 3 add-on fees, 1 effect fee.

Assigning products

Open a profile and use Assigned products to attach it to the products it should price. The product’s designer shows the fees live, and the cart and checkout charge them.

Deleting a profile unassigns all of its products; it does not delete the products.

How fees reach the cart and checkout

Fees are applied to the cart through Shopify’s Cart Transform, so the amount the customer sees in the designer is the amount they pay at checkout. The fee is included in the price of the product line — customers never see a separate fee line.

Under Fee charging, the Charging method decides how:

  • Automatic (recommended) — uses an instant price update on Shopify Plus stores, and includes the fee in the product price on all other plans.
  • Always update the line price directly (Shopify Plus only).
  • Always include the fee in the product price (works on all plans).

The customer pays the same total either way. The card shows Fee charging active once everything is set up.

A hidden fee product is provisioned in your store to support fee charging. It is managed by Customezo — you do not need to edit it, and you should not delete it. The Fee Product Status banner tells you if it needs attention, with a Sync Fee Product action.

Subscription products

Shopify does not allow price adjustments on subscription lines. If a customizable product is bought with a subscription (selling plan), its customization fees are not charged. One-time purchases are charged normally, and the page warns you which products are affected.

Hiding prices in the designer

Under Settings → Store, Show prices in the designer decides whether the designer shows money amounts.

When you switch it off:

  • The designer hides the product price, the bulk discount teaser, discount amounts and the total.
  • Extra fees the shopper chooses — side fees, add-ons, effects — stay visible, with an Extra fees total and the note Product price and discounts are calculated in cart and checkout. Extra fees stay visible here.
  • Nothing changes at checkout. Fees and bulk discounts are still applied, and the shopper sees the full total in the cart.

Hiding prices is useful when your product page already shows the price, or when you do not want the designer to distract from the design.

Fees and bulk discounts together

A bulk discount can also reduce customization fees when Apply discounts to customization fees is on. This only works with the Percentage discount type — a fixed amount off or a new unit price never discounts fees.

Deciding what to charge

  • Charge for extra sides when each side is a separate print run. This is the most common setup.
  • Do not charge for the first side — it is part of the product price, and a fee on the basic use case hurts conversion.
  • Charge for effects that cost you real production time.
  • Keep it legible — a customer who cannot predict the price abandons the cart. The designer shows a running total as they work; keep the number of separate fees small.
