Import from Shopify

Connect an existing Shopify product to the designer so customers can personalize it, while variants, prices and images stay in sync with your store.

This is the recommended way to create a custom product. The product keeps living in Shopify — Customezo adds a designer on top of it.

What happens when you import

  • The Shopify product is connected to a Customezo product profile.
  • Its variants, prices and images stay in sync with your store.
  • A default Front side is created so you have somewhere to start.
  • The Design button metafields are written to the product automatically, so the storefront button knows the product is customizable.

Nothing about the product’s price, inventory or content changes in Shopify.

Step by step

  1. Go to Products → Create product → Import from Shopify.
  2. Select a Shopify product. Search by title and pick one. You will see how many variants and images it has.
  3. Choose the print method. This sets the designer’s quality rules and how print files are exported. See Print methods.
  4. Press Import and enable designer.
  5. You land on the product page. Press Open Print Area Designer to add your remaining sides, mockups and print areas.

Already connected

If the product you pick is already connected to a Customezo profile, you are told so and offered a link to open the existing profile. A Shopify product can only be connected once — edit the existing profile instead of creating a second one.

After importing

The product exists in both systems, so there are two things to finish:

  1. Configure the designer — see Print Area Designer. Until at least one side has a background and a print area, customers have nothing to design on.
  2. Check the storefront button — the Design Now block must be present in your theme. See Storefront setup.

Variants and sync

Because the product is owned by Shopify:

  • Variant changes you make in Shopify (new colors, new sizes, deleted variants) are detected and reported as drift. You review and accept them in Customezo, and then assign print areas and backgrounds to any new variants.
  • Prices and inventory are always Shopify’s. Customezo only adds customization fees on top — see Pricing & fees.
  • If the product is deleted in Shopify, Customezo marks it Shopify deleted and stops offering it.

Details: Publishing & sync.

Per-variant setup

Products with color variants usually need more than one background. In the Print Area Designer you can:

  • Upload a product photo per color, or upload a single transparent mask and let each variant fill it with its own color.
  • Apply a print area to one variant, one color group (all its sizes), all variants, or a hand-picked selection.

This matters when, for example, the printable area on a youth size is smaller than on an adult size.

Common questions

Can I import several products at once? Import runs one product at a time so you can choose the right print method for each. For families of similar products, set up the first one and then create the others from a design template or duplicate the configuration.

What if my product has no images? Upload mockups directly in the Print Area Designer, or use the mask-plus-color background mode. A product with no background is not ready to publish.

Does importing change my SEO or handles? No. Customezo does not touch the product’s handle, title, description or SEO fields.
