Publishing & sync

Publish Customezo products to Shopify, keep them in sync, and handle drift when variants change on the Shopify side.

Customezo products and Shopify products are linked but not identical. This page explains how they stay aligned.

Publishing a product to Shopify

Products created from a template or as a canvas product do not exist in your store yet. On the product page you will see a banner:

  • Ready to publish to Shopify — the designer setup is complete.
  • Finish the designer setup, then publish to Shopify — something is still missing.

Press Publish to Shopify. Customezo creates the Shopify product with its variants and images and activates it. The confirmation names the new handle and how many variants were mapped, for example Product published to Shopify! Handle: custom-tee (12/12 variants mapped).

Products imported from Shopify are already published; you use Update on Shopify instead to push changes.

Publish with the setup finished

You can publish before the designer setup is complete, but customers would reach a product with nothing to design on. Finish the print areas first — see Print Area Designer.

Sync statuses

Every product shows its relationship with Shopify:

StatusMeaningWhat to do
Not syncedExists only in Customezo.Publish to Shopify.
SyncedBoth sides match.Nothing.
Drift detectedThe product changed in Shopify.Review and accept the changes.
Shopify deletedThe linked Shopify product no longer exists.Remove it from Customezo, or publish it again as a new product.
Sync failedThe last sync attempt errored.Retry. If it persists, contact support with the product name.

Drift: when Shopify changes

You manage variants, prices and inventory in Shopify. When something changes there — a new color, a discontinued size, a renamed option — Customezo flags drift detected rather than silently changing your designer configuration.

Reviewing drift shows what changed, and accepting it applies the changes: Shopify changes accepted: 3 added, 1 removed, 2 updated.

After accepting:

  1. Open the Print Area Designer.
  2. Give the new variants a background and a print area — new colors need a mockup or mask fill, new sizes may need their own print area.
  3. Check the checklist is green again.

New variants are not customizable until configured

A variant with no print area has nothing for the customer to design on. Always re-open the Print Area Designer after accepting drift.

Updating an existing product

Press Update on Shopify after changing anything that Shopify needs to know about — for example images or variant structure for products Customezo owns. Warnings in the confirmation tell you if any part could not be applied.

Designer-only changes — print areas, sides, templates, pricing — take effect immediately and do not need a Shopify update.

Designer visibility on the storefront

The Design Now button is driven by product metafields that Customezo writes. They are updated when you:

  • enable or disable the designer,
  • change the product status,
  • publish or update the product.

If you see the storefront Design Now button couldn’t be updated on Shopify yet, the change is saved in Customezo but the metafield write did not go through. Retry the action; if it keeps failing, reinstall permissions by opening the app from the Shopify admin and check the store connection in Settings → Store.

Removing a product

Remove from Customezo unlinks the product and drops its designer configuration. The Shopify product, its orders and its existing print files are not deleted. The Design Now button stops appearing once the metafields are cleared.
