Create from a template

Launch a new customizable product from a ready-made product template that already has sides, mockups and print areas configured.

Product templates are pre-built product types — t-shirts, mugs, posters and more — that already have their sides, mockups and print areas set up. Use one when you want to start selling a product type quickly, or when you do not yet have your own mockup photography.

Two different “templates”

Product templates (this page) create a whole product with its sides and print areas. Design templates are ready-made designs that open inside the designer. They are separate features.

Step by step

  1. Go to Products → Create product → Start from a template.
  2. Browse the available templates. The card shows how many are available for your store.
  3. Pick the template that matches the product you sell.
  4. Give the product its name and details, and choose the print method.
  5. Create the product. You land on the product page with a Product created from template banner.
  6. Press Review print areas and check every side against your actual product.
  7. Press Publish to Shopify when the setup is right.

Always review before publishing

The template’s sides and print areas were configured for a reference product, not for yours. Before you publish, confirm:

  • Sizes — the print area’s real width and height match what your supplier can print.
  • Position — the print area sits where you actually print it (chest height, mug wrap position…).
  • Sides — remove sides you do not offer, add ones you do.
  • Mockups — replace the template’s images with your own product photos if you have them. Customers judge your product by this preview.
  • Variants — the colors and sizes match your real catalogue.

The Print Area Designer’s checklist tells you what is unconfigured, but it cannot tell you whether the values are right for your product. That review is yours.

Publishing

A product created from a template does not exist in your Shopify store yet. Pressing Publish to Shopify creates it with its variants and images, and sets it to active. See Publishing & sync.

Until it is published, the product cannot be bought and the Design Now button has nothing to attach to.

When a template is not the right fit

  • If you already sell the product in Shopify, use Import from Shopify instead — otherwise you end up with a duplicate product.
  • If the whole surface is printable and there is no product photo, use a canvas product.
